The Seattle Zoo
The zoo is owned by the City of Seattle and operated by the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation. Approximately $53 million for recent zoo improvements were funded by a combination of bonds approved by King County voters in 1985, grants, interest earnings, and $10 million in private contributions raised by the Woodland Park Zoological Society. The zoo employs about 150 full and part-time staff members, and benefits from the services of nearly 900 volunteers.
